Dysmenorrhoea & Gynaecological Pain

Disease Information

Dysmenorrhoea is painful, often incapacitating, menstrual cramp. Primary dysmenorrhoea is associated with the onset of menstruation in females. Gynaecologic pain (or secondary dysmenorrhoea) may begin later in life and is associated with a number of underlying extra-uterine and intra-uterine conditions including endometriosis, adhesions, pelvic inflammatory disease, fibroids and endometritis.

Market Opportunity

The majority of women will experience some degree of menstrual discomfort and around 15% of women are compelled to seek medical treatment for dysmenorrhoea and of these, around one-third do not attain relief from oral analgesics or off-label use of oral contraceptives.

Chronic gynaecologic pain is reported by over 20% of American women (or over 20 million sufferers).

Product Information

PSD508 is a novel formulation of marketed analgesics, delivered through a unique and proprietary intra-vaginal device. This local drug delivery enhances safety by minimising exposure and potentially enhances efficacy by delivering higher doses of the drug to the desired site than would otherwise be possible via oral delivery.

The PSD508 active ingredient is a well established non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) developed for dysmenorrhoea.
